New-generation engine technology has given Quad Cam V6 GS300 high performance coupled with the highest fuel efficiency in the Lexus range.
The 3.0-litre all-alloy GS300 V6 is the first Lexus engine with direct petrol injection and dual infinitely variable valve timing.
It has the highest specific power output in the Lexus range with official ADR81/01 fuel economy of 9.8 litres/100km an economy figure usually associated with a four-cylinder medium car.
The new GS300 has higher performance, safety, comfort and feature levels, and lower emission levels, compared with the superseded straight-six GS300 model.
It has 10 per cent more power and four per cent more torque than the previous model.
The new V-configuration engines contribute to the GS design goals of minimising weight and concentrating mass within the wheelbase for improved performance, braking and handling.
The new Lexus V6 engine saves 39kg over its predecessor and is matched to a new six-speed automatic transmission and a new chassis package.
The combination of direct petrol injection and dual VVT-i gives the new GS300 183kW of power at 6200rpm and 310Nm of torque at 3500rpm for effortless overtaking.
More than 278Nm, or 90 per cent of maximum torque, is available from 1800 to 6300rpm for optimum driveability.
The direct petrol Injection software controls fuel injection timing and volume, air/fuel ratio and throttle valve position.
Fuel is injected directly into the combustion chamber at high pressure, thereby improving combustion efficiency, while allowing for a high compression ratio to improve power and torque across the engine revolution range.
Lexus dual VVT-i provides optimum inlet and exhaust valve timing across the engine revolution range according to engine and driving conditions.
It allows the engine to meet previously conflicting goals: improved torque at low revolutions, better use of the expansion ratio in the cylinder and better use of exhaust pulsation to improve breathing at high revolutions.
The benefits are improved performance and fuel efficiency, and lower emissions.
As an added feature, the new Lexus V6 engine has swirl control valves to improve bottom-end torque.
The Lexus GS300 and GS430 feature the rear view camera technology that was rated number one in the NRMA Insurance Reversing Visibility Index released in May 2005. The Lexus GS was the only vehicle of 221 tested to achieve the maximum five star rating.
The Lexus RX330 rated second in the overall study and number one for four-wheel drive rear visibility.
